A message from the Dean of IU Graduate School Indianapolis to Incoming Fellows for 2025-2026

Welcome Aboard!

We are delighted to welcome you to our campus and to congratulate you on your selection as one of our Graduate School Fellows at IU Indianapolis. We pride ourselves in offering outstanding opportunities on our vibrant urban campus.

As you become more familiar with the campus and your graduate program, I hope you will find time to attend some of our Graduate School events or participate in one of our student organizations. The Graduate School offers meetings and events focused on helping students build professional skills important for success on campus and in their future careers. These events include our Preparing Future Faculty and Professionals (PFFP) conference and on-line program; our collaboration with the University Writing Center to assist with writing projects; and meetings with our Graduate School staff to move you forward within your degree. Our Graduate School website offers additional guidance on campus programs and offices, as well as awards and recognitions.

Building a network of friends and colleagues is equally important during graduate school. We encourage you to look for opportunities to meet students from not only your school but other schools across campus. Our reception today offers you a chance to jump start those connections. You will meet some of our students involved in organizations with a focus on graduate students including the United Professional and Graduate Student Organization UPnGO – open to all students and provides opportunities for social activities and building a network of colleagues. We have an active Graduate and Professional Student Government (GPSG) that takes on local projects, provides travel awards and funds for student research, and organizes the ELITE 50 which recognizes our top graduate and professional students. There are many professional and cultural groups on campus including those that are associated with individual schools. Visit the SPOT for more information on student groups. Our twice-monthly e-newsletter, the GradJag, offers additional updates on campus and local events, career development and employment opportunities, along with tips on thriving and optimizing your experiences at IU Indianapolis.
