Best Practice for 100% online programs and English Proficiency Admissions requirement
Kelly Sumner from The Office of International Affairs presented the Graduate Affairs Committee (GAC) with English Proficiency Best Practices for 100% online degree programs at the August GAC meeting.
Note: Students admitted with TOEFL iBT of 79-99 or IELTS of 6.5-7.0 will be required to take the English for Academic Purposes (EAP) placement test. Students admitted with an online English Proficiency exam, Duolingo (DET), IELTS Indicator, TOEFL iBT Home Edition, or TOEFL Essentials will also be required to take the EAP placement test.
If you offer admissions to a student that does not meet the EAP waiver requirement by providing a TOEFL score above 99 OR an IELTS score above 7 they may not be able to graduate in a timely manner, as the ENG courses are not always offered online. The Office of International Affairs recommend graduate and professional programs set their English Proficiency admissions requirement such that all applicants are waived the EAP placement test.
If you oversee an online graduate or professional program, please read the English Proficiency Best Practices for 100% online degree programs document.
